CALLING ALL ARTISTS, DESIGNERS, AND ACTIVISTS!
Tired of seeing the same boring, sexist, unrealistic advertising images like this everywhere you look? Fight back and design a positive message of women/girls’ empowerment for a New York City billboard!
SPARK (Sexualization Protest: Action, Resistance, Knowledge), Women’s Therapy Centre Institute and Endangered Bodies have access to a prominent billboard in New York City and are seeking a bold, unique and inspiring design. We want an outstanding image that will compete with the barrage of skinny, white, young, digitally altered images of women/girls.
Our message is empowerment and self-acceptance through the promotion of diversity and the representation of healthy, powerful, sensual, women of every size, color, age, nationality and sexual orientation. By attracting mass attention and competing visually, we aspire to combat the serious psychological damage done to girls and women resulting from the uni-dimensional image ideal.
Submit a design idea, concept or final image to us and we will select one designer’s image to be displayed on the billboard, for potentially millions of people to see. Please be open to collaboration and/or requests for minor edits or revisions. There’s no financial compensation, but hey—your work will be on a billboard in Manhattan! Please send JPGs or any questions to Dana at SPARKsummit@gmail.com. We look forward to your submissions!
DEADLINE: AUGUST 15, 2011
UPDATE: We’ve had so many amazing and inspiring submissions, and more are pouring in every day, along with requests for a little more time. We’ve listened up, and we’re extending our deadline a bit. Our new deadline is September 15th, so get out your tablets, your photo programs, and your sketchbooks and get crackin’!
